Geocache Description:

Two day hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back again

***Update posted 6/5/2005*** Several very honest sticklers for accuracy have posted "no-finds" for this one due to missing photos or other factors. Please feel free to post this as a find if you take the hike! This is a very difficult adventure, and you deserve the credit for taking it!!! If you feel that posting this as a find without meeting the exact criteria will taint your log, I respect that. I just want you to know that we're all friends here and the honor system applies...take the credit for the hike if you took the hike.
***end of update***

This is a virtual multi-cache. While the locations are easy to find, it is extremely difficult to reach each of the locations. Summer temperatues exceed 100 degrees. Please do this hike ONLY over two (or more) days. People have died attempting this in one day especially in the summer. We spoke with Ranger Lori while there and she said they have about one medical emergency a day from June throught September! Rescue helicopters are expensive and dangerous. Be safe, be prepared, do your homework.

1. Start at N36 03.188', W 112 05.015' Elevation 7,246
2. Proceed to N 36 03.843' W 112 05.380' Elevation 6,072
3. Next to N 36 06.359', W 112 05.671' Elevation 2,573
4. Then a short hop to N 36 06.398, W 112 05.660'
4a. On the way to #5, stop at waypoint GC5F1, "GCNP Bright Angel"
5. N 36 04.694', W 112 07.636'
6. Finally, N 36 03.439', W 112 08.627'

To log this cache, post your photo at each of the six locations as follows:

1. Your photo, including sign identifying where you are.
2. Your photo, sign identifying where you are, or a photo with the building in the background.
3. Show any of the buildings, preferably the canteen.
4. Take a photo of the ground...this will make sense when you see what this is. Keep your head up for incoming!
5. Photo with sign
6. Photo with sign

Special Notes:
a. If you plot this as a route, your GPS will show about 8.2 miles total. This is as the California Condor flies. If you cannot fly, your mileage will be about 16 miles.
b. Pay attention to the elevations listed. This is a vertical change of one mile down and one mile up.
c. Again, PLEASE be safe. Read "The Guide" which you will receive when you enter the park. It has important safety information.
d. $20.00 fee to enter park, per vehicle. This pass is good for 7 days. A bargain. Or, purchase an annual National Parks Pass for $50.00 and it is good at ALL parks, monuments, etc for one year.
